What is the CA Direct Entry Route?

A special ICAI provision that lets eligible graduates skip CA Foundation entirely.

The CA Direct Entry Route is an ICAI-approved pathway that allows eligible graduates and post-graduates to register directly for the CA Intermediate course, bypassing CA Foundation entirely.

This route recognizes that graduates have already completed 3 years of higher education, making them ready for CA Intermediate without the Foundation level.

Important: The CA Intermediate and Final exams are exactly the same for all students regardless of entry route. Direct entry does not make the CA exams any easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common queries about the CA Direct Entry Route.

I have a B.Com with 52%. Am I eligible?

I’m an Engineering graduate with 61%. Can I use Direct Entry?
Yes! Non-commerce graduates (Science, Engineering, Arts, etc.) need a minimum of 60% aggregate. With 61% you qualify and can register directly for CA Intermediate without appearing for CA Foundation.

Do Direct Entry students get the same ICAI study material?
Yes. Once registered for CA Intermediate, you receive the same study material as any other Intermediate student delivered to your address via ICAI’s CDS. The curriculum and exams are identical for both routes.

What is ICITSS and is it mandatory for Direct Entry students?
Yes, ICITSS is mandatory for all CA students before starting Articleship, including Direct Entry students. It includes IT Training (15 days, ~₹6,500) and an Orientation Program (6 days, ~₹3,500). Register at your nearest ICAI Regional Centre.

Can I register for CA Inter in my final year of graduation?
Yes, provisionally. ICAI allows registration even if your final year results are awaited. However, you must submit final marksheets confirming the minimum percentage within 7 days of results. If you don’t meet the cut-off, your registration will be cancelled.

Is Direct Entry harder since we skip Foundation?

It’s advisable to self-study these basics before starting CA Inter. CharteredTeam’s test series helps you benchmark your preparation from day one.

What is the last date to register for CA Inter via Direct Entry?
For the September 2026 attempt, the registration deadline is approximately April 30, 2026. Always verify the exact dates from icai.org as they may be updated by ICAI.
